OPERATION SMILE:

Carine and her team are not only focused on corporate service excellence, they are also deeply committed to community upliftment and supporting causes close to their heart. One such worthy initiative is Operation Smile South Africa. It is estimated that two billion people, or one-quarter of the world’s population, lack access to basic surgical care. Every 3 minutes, a child is born somewhere in the world with a cleft lip or cleft palate.

Operation Smile is an international medical charity (and one of the largest surgical organizations in the world) whose global network of thousands of medical volunteers from more than 80 countries is dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children from more than 60 countries. Since its founding in 1982, Operation Smile has provided hundreds of thousands of free surgical procedures for children and young adults born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities.

Operation Smile performed more than 17,000 dental procedures during 2015 at their centers as well as local and international dental missions. In 2015 their medical volunteers conducted 161 medical missions across 112 sites in 29 countries and their programs provided more than 15,000 surgeries to patients worldwide. Also in 2015 Operation Smile provided more than 100,000 specialty medical interactions at their care centers across the globe.

Carine has committed to doing pro bono work for this phenomenal organisation in 2016. “It’s heartwarming to see how these kids’ lives are transformed through the outstanding work Operation Smile does,” she says with a smile.
